History of the Station

Lakhanda, the Sri Lankan Radio program broadcast over the 3MDR Radio Station, Melbourne, stands for the benefit of all Sri Lankans and especially the Sri Lankans living in Melbourne, Victoria. We do recognize the people’s diversity of expectations, values, interests and needs.

Lakhanda was first aired by Gamini Fonseka (veteran broadcaster and journalist in Sri Lanka as well as Australia) in 1998 at 88.3 FM, Southern FM Radio Station, Moorabbin. On 14, October 2001, Lakhanda was moved to 3MDR Radio Station at Emerald.

 
Lakhanda aims to provide the best possible programs to satisfy the needs of its listeners for informative, educational and family oriented entertainment.
